Who were the Gog and Magog (Yajuj and Majuj) in history? What have the classical scholars said about them? Are they connected with the Mongol Invasion of the 13th Century? Is Dhul-Qarnayn Alexander or Cyrus? Where is the great barrier? Have they already arrived?
This book is a modern attempt to present a chronological story of the Gog and Magog and the prophecy of their coming using the Qur'an, Hadith, Exegeses, Prophecy Eschatology and historical analysis.

The book is written from an Islamic viewpoint which was not a surprise. Some of the data is useful but there seemed to be a lot of extraneous speculative information as well, but that could be useful for other people. Information that could have collaborated the author's view was overlooked. The Quran 18:83-98 speaks of a ruler "Dhul-Qarnayn" who commissioned the erection of a wall made with "sheets of iron" between two mountains to keep out the marauding hordes from "Gog and Magog". The identity of this ruler remains obscure, some identify him with Alexander the Great, others with Cyrus. Muslim historians (Marasid Al-Ittila and Ibn Al-Fagib) identify the wall as the "Gates of Alexander", however that name today is assigned to a 50 mile long wall. However, the "Darial Gorge", also called the "Caucasian Gates", seems to better fit the description of being between two mountains, and this narrow pass was also mentioned by Strabo and Ptolemy. It is located very near the border between Russia and Georgia along the Tergi river, between the Black and Caspian seas. This would place Magog in the time of the Persian and/or Greek empires north of the Caucasian Gates, which is Southern Russia on modern maps. Josephus before gave a similar testimony, citing a now-lost previous testimony, that Alexander the Great had held back the "Scythians" with "iron gates", but later let them through to plunder the Medes. (Josephus, Wars 7.244-246). Josephus also associated these Scythians with Lake Maeotis / Meotis / Maeotius, which is modern day Sea of Azov, on the Black Sea NE corner.Product details

This is a good and informative read, and the author definitely presents some very interesting theories about Gog and Magog.
